Things are gonna be changing around here

Wassup all!

First let me start by showing off this commission I did for my brother using nearly everything I learned about what I can do with C. Studio, making this one of the most complex and ambitious drawings I’ve done in a long while. It goes without saying how proud I am of myself for pushing myself to achieve this level of quality, even if there’s room for improvement. I also added a few other drawings I’ve been working on this past month, so you’re free to check those out as well in the Personal Art and Commissions tabs.

Right, with that outta the way let me talk about changes I’m making around here. Get ready for a lengthy monologue.

The first change is that I’m deleting my facebook page. I decided I don’t really need it, and I’ve been annoyed and peeved by its constant alerts regarding my activity (or lack thereof, rather) and trying to get me to pay to boost my posts. So yeah, I don’t think I’ll miss it anytime soon.

The next change is that I probably won’t make any more blog posts on the site. From now on my social presence will be on Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram (and maybe Deviant Art). In fact, I intend to make plenty of changes to the site as well, but I won’t say much about it until I figure out exactly what I’m doing with it.

Lastly, I probably won’t be doing any more commissions for a while. I kinda wanna invest more of my time into training and getting more accustomed to drawing digitally. Bringing up my speed, quality, and overall comfort are gonna be priority now that I’m at this stage.

That all being said, I’ll still make sure I finish all other commissions I’d already agreed on doing prior to making this post.

There are other things I would’ve liked to include here, but I think this is enough news for one post. I’ll catch ya’ll another time.

Smell ya laters!

Custom Brushes, yay!

Clip Studio has an incredibly vast amount of options available when it comes to adjusting the default brushes to better suit your drawing style. I absolutely have no idea how half of these settings work on a technical level so playing around with everything until I found something that clicks with has been my go-to strategy here, and it’s helpful that it has a ‘reset to default settings’ button should I get too carried away and not how to get things back to normal. One of the apps drawbacks though is that most of the pens and brushes don’t feel unique in the kind of lines they produce; their shapes just feel more or less the same across the board to me.

Fortunately, this app allows you to make your own brushes, and it works pretty damn well!! If you wanna learn how to do it, I recommend checking out this video tutorial by Day of the Indie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8TYJYcHmDA

Here are just some quick examples of what I’ve created and how they work when you paint with them. The “bristle brush” seems to be great at creating feathery, furry, and hairy textures while the “sharpie” just feels like a good marker. I plan to tinker around with these two some more until they feel just right.

That being said, sorry about the lack of blog updates and uploads this past month. In addition to this, I’ve just been really busy trying to master many of the features Clip Studio has to offer and it’s helped broaden my horizons tremendously! (like, for real) I also have completed some commissions that I’ve simply neglected uploading, and I’m trying to manage my social media pages better, too.

Things have been awfully slow ‘round here and it’s probably not gonna get much faster anytime soon, but once I’m done with all these preparations awesome stuff will begin snowballing their way in. I promise!

So yeah, expect big things from me in the coming weeks. Cheers!

Milestone Achieved!

Huzzah!

The weeks I’ve spent reading tutorials and practicing in solitude has finally yielded result I couldn’t be more happy about! Now I’m REALLY starting to draw and paint at the level I’ve dreamed of achieving for ages! I may still be trying to figure out every aspect of my new method, but it’ll only require a little more practice before I completely own it. Three cheers!

The drawing itself was based on a character I customized during my first playthrough of the game Sunset Overdrive by Insomniac Games (incredibly fun game, might I add).

I’ll continue to focus on drawing heads until I’m at least 90% sure I know exactly what I’m doing, and then I’ll start trying to draw full bodies.

Ninja Crayon Drawing!

I’ve been hitting up them tutorials once again to strengthen my knowledge of the basics. What I hadn’t expected to pick up and learn in the process was how to create drawings that look like they were drawn on paper with crayon. Seriously, this was drawn 100% digitally. No actual paper or crayons were used.

I’m glad I no longer get my hands dirty with waxy crayons and water coloring to achieve this kind of effect.

Heya!

‘sup everyone!

Sorry it’s been so long since the last post. I’ve actually had this drawing on the back burner since mid November but didn’t fully finish til just recently.

I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to expand my knowledge with Manga Studio and Affinity Apps so I can learn to make way crazier things, and I have also been pushing myself to make more complex digital drawings and designs as well. This one in particular ain’t much to write home about, but it’s a start.

Right now it feels like I’m stepping way out beyond my comfort zone and growing so much as an artist because of it. It’s been slow going, I know, but the level of art I've dreamed of being able to create doesn’t seem so far away anymore.

Film Noir style!

Started looking at Affinity Designer tutorials in an effort to level up my graphic designing skills.

I’m much more used to drawing free-hand as opposed to working with vector tools and layer effects, but doing stuff outside of my comfort zone until they become a part of it is kinda the objective here.

This illustration is based on a bust I saw at a museum in Barcelona while I was out traveling last summer.

I made a beach sculpture

Went to the beach with my friends last Sunday for one last bit of summer fun. While the gang went off spending time in the water I stayed around our belongings making this massive sculpture of Wii Fit Trainer.

Making sand sculptures is just something I almost always do and my friends accept that, and it's awesome.

You can see images of the sculpture from other angles in the 'latest artwork' tab of the gallery page.
